The excitement and personal satisfaction that I get from each trip doesn’t come from arriving at the destinations themselves, but from the discoveries I encounter along the way as the seemingly ordinary becomes the extraordinary. The juxtaposition of natural light, conceptual maneuvering and the mystery of the unknown; this is what shapes my process as I combine these elements to capture each subject, which I currently photograph in 35mm full frame digital, medium format film and digital,  and large format film.

The combination of the atmosphere surging with moisture and the collision of hot dry air from the southwest turns a apparently tranquil, beautiful plains into a high energy, dramatic stage, charged with electricity and spawning rotating thunderstorms in a display of nature’s force in the Great Plains. From Colorado mountain passes, the canyons of Utah, the terrain of New Mexico, the California coastline to the vast deserts of Arizona and Nevada, to the rain forests of the Pacific Northwest, these are just some of my recent excursions where each photographic opportunity has been as unique as the locations themselves. As a photographer, I hope that my work will serve as not only a source of ongoing artistic enjoyment, but also symbolically encouraging others to step out of their comfort zone and experience the beauty or our natural world.
